Not sure if any of y'all remember my blog. Lord knows I have forgotten it. Sorry but my life just hasn't been all that exciting. Well things have happened but nothing really worth blogging about. Typical stuff, jerk guys, lots of snow and work work work.
However, my bestie visited last weekend! Erika and Allison came up to visit me and all these Yankee's up here. The actually timed the trip perfect. Missed the big snow storm, but saw lots of left over snow, then were back home in tank tops before the second snow storm hit.
Erika has been up here a few times, but it was Allison's first trip to NYC. She didn't know what to do. They flew in early Friday so we had a good long weekend. Erika's boss is the bomb and offered us his driver for the day. And it would be un-southern to turn down the generosity of a stranger, so Izzy picked them up from the airport, drove them to my house and then we set out for a day of site seeing and shopping in NYC.
First we went to Wall Street and Ground Zero. I think everyone needs to do that at least once. You just don't realize how much impact it still has on NY.
Then off to canal street we went. I mean ya gotta do Canal street. Now for those who don't know, Canal street ain't nothin' but a hustle. Allison was blown away by this. I told her, girl don't feel bad even if you talk these people down to $2 they are still making money! By the end of the strip she got it though. That girl walked away with a fake Burberry for $27, that is skill :)
Next we headed to Madison Square Park to have lunch at the Shake Shack. Most of you know this from my last post, ugh about 2 months ago. Well I told them it put 5 Guys to shame and boy I wasn't lyin'. Oh its heaven, yummy greasy heaven. I had a hot dog this time, but Erika and Allison both got burgers. As we waited for our order we got cozy with a few ballsy squirrels. I mean it is in a park, so naturally their are squirrels, but these squirrels were off the chain. I mean not scared of a damn thing. They would come right up on your table and take a fry. Back up jack, big girls don't share. I thought I was going to have to thrown down with a squirrel when my hot dog and shake came.
Then we went to FAO to get Morgan a teddy bear. I tell you that store is a whole different world when it isn't' Christmas. I actually could see the shelves and shop. Did you know they have toys :) and a bulk candy section. You can guess what I purchased.
We also did Macy's, and Foot Locker not too exciting. Then we had Sushi at a spot by my job. I had my usual steamed shrimp and scallops, no salt added, with broccoli and garlic sauce on the side. Erika and Allison had fried shrimp tempera rolls and about a pound of spicy mayo. Now if that don't say life ain't fair then I don't know what does. As I drink my diet coke! After dinner we headed home we were all pretty beat!
Next day we just took things slow, did Time Square, ate at Johns Pizza (you gotta have NY pizza) and did some more shopping. At least that was it during the day. At night we had made reservations at a wine bar my friend Dre suggested. Y'all know I am all about wine plus they did pairings with Chocolate. What could be better. So three glasses of wine later we start to head home. That is when it all went down hill. I suggested we have one more drink at an Irish Pub I knew. So we go downstairs were there aren't as many people to have a drink. I order my famous extra dirty martini and things were great. Then the Karaoke came out. Well Allison was siked, Erika and I were tipsy so we were down for Karaoke. Hell Yeah!!! Lets just say we met lots of friends, danced a bit, ran up the bar tab, and I don't remember the rest. Yes, I was that chic that night. God bless those girls for babysitting me. For those who participated in my 26th birthday celebration, you can fill in the rest!
So after sleeping on the floor in my bathroom most of the night we were all up and ready for our next day. We went for bagels (you gotta have bagels in NYC) and into town so the girls could finally get some tennis shoes. We didn't time the trip to well because we ended up with no shoes and rushing back home to get our Lion King tickets. That's right y'all I finally saw my Lion King! It was fantastic. I was expecting to be reminded of the movie the whole time but it really wasn't the case. It was by far the most creative show I've seen yet. Its hard to explain but the way people become animals through puppetry was fantastic. And the voices, OMG those people could sing. Plus the men were half naked most of the time, so that was just a bonus.
After the show we went to an Italian restaurant in Time Square that Erika's friend Beth suggested. It was really good, but I think we were all too tired to really enjoy it. And no, none of us had wine with our dinner!
Monday the girls flew out early, too early. They caught a cab and I headed to work. All in all it was so great having friends to hang out with. I think that is what I miss the most about being up here. I really needed a girls weekend. Love and miss you guys, thanks for coming!
